Humanities Department 2018
The Humanities Department at WRS offers the following subjects to our students:
We believe in offering our students an experiential and authentic learning of Humanities. Besides organising learning journeys to complement the curriculum, the department also leverages on external platforms such as competitions and conferences. Through these experiences, the department hopes to help our students make meaning of what they have learned and nurture their love for the Humanities.
Ensuring student-centricity and relevance to the Humanities, some of the learning journeys arranged for our students include the Hippo Tour to discover significant historical sights in the city, the Pulau Semakau Landfill to enhance environmental awareness and the ‘Behind the Scene’ educational tour to the Singapore Zoo to promote values of empathy and care for the animals.
Also as part of the department’s effort to cultivate the joy of learning and build the 21st Century competencies, in particular critical thinking and collaboration skills, our students are also given the platform to take part in the Model UN Conference, recognised for its broad coverage and quality discussions of global topics with relevance to the Humanities. Teams which participated in the annually held History Card Challenge and the Youth Entrepreneurial Challenge (YEC) also emerged victorious in their respective categories.
