Department Programmes / Highlights
The WRS Science Experience
WRS seeks to provide opportunities for students to acquire 21st Century Competencies, particularly in Communication, Collaboration and Information skills, as well as Critical and Inventive Thinking
The following are some platforms designed to engage students in scientific inquiry.
(1) School-wide programme
All students are engaged in the assembly programme that showcases science demonstrations and
provides opportunities for students to apply their scientific concepts to daily phenomena.
(2) Level-wide programme
(a) All Secondary 1 to 3 students are engaged in scientific investigation and /or research projects.
Secondary one students work in groups to conduct scientific investigation, analyse the data collected and present their findings. Secondary two students collaborate in groups to generate ideas for a circuit design and build the design using a computer simulation. Secondary 3 Chemistry students work in groups to design an experiment to investigate a phenomenon related to Chemistry. Biology students conduct research on a health condition or disease while Physics students use their understanding of the thermal processes learnt to design and construct a physical product.
(b) Learning Journeys and Enrichment Workshops
Students participated in learning journeys such as Sea Aquarium, Sungai Buloh, Science Centre and enrichment workshops such as Bacteria Transformation, DNA Extraction.
(3) Talent Development programme for high ability students
The objectives of this programme are:
a. to develop 21st century competencies such as critical and inventive thinking, and
communication, collaboration and information skills, and
b. to expose your child/ward to Science research and real-world applications of Science.
In 2017, students participated in the following competitions and the results are shown in the table below:
The following are their projects:
